When you're driving by Bay St Louis on your way to New Orleans, this is the 'go to' place for breakfast in the area. For those eggs Benedict lovers, hold off your trip until the weekend so you can try their signature eggs bay st Louis. Don't worry, for everyone else there's a sprinkling of omelettes and egg scrambles, as well as other typical breakfast items. I haven't tried many lunch offerings, but the grilled shrimp sandwich is very tasty. Over the course of the past year and a half, I've gotten to know the owner and many of the servers on a first name basis. They are funny and interesting people! I hope everyone else who spends a lot of time in Bay St. Louis will get to enjoy this very hospitable cafe too. I knocked off a star because their sweet tea tastes like the inside of a coffee maker. The hot tea is fine though when it's cool out.

The meat scramble was delicious! 3 eggs scrambled with ham, sausage, bacon, potatoes, peppers, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños! Nom! Nom! Nom! And I thought it was very light for all those ingredients! ;)
(5)Dani K.
This is my favorite brunch spot in the Bay. Everything I've gotten is delicious. I love the tuna sandwich as well as all the breakfast items. Staff is so friendly.
(4)Jeremy H.
Hawaiian burger was ok, I would've liked more sauce, but it was good. The breakfast was great and they have a large assortment of cookies.
(3)CORINA C.
Very solid traditional breakfast. Rosemary potatoes were tasty, bacon and eggs cooked perfectly, and the thick-sliced wheat toast was a nice surprise.
(4)Ben H.
Had the southwest burger. Fantastic! Nice and spicy. Great atmosphere. Great service. My wife had the ahi tuna salad-also good.
(5)Chris M.
I'm giving a three star but 2.5 is more like it. Nice staff but the food was just OK. You can see from my pictures it's nothing too special but it was not terrible either.
(3)Joshua B.
The food was good and the atmosphere was nice, especially sitting on the patio. It seemed a little pricey but not too bad.

This place is very quaint. When my husband and I go to New Orleans we drive to Bay St Louis and we stop here for lunch. The staff if friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. This is our second time here and we will be back next May. Thank you for telling me about the fresh tuna it was yummy.

It was a great breakfast. The crawfish étouffée omelette was terrific and the spinach scramble was a great second place. All of the servers were pleasant and gracious to each other. What a lovely find! I enjoyed eating on the porch outside the best. We had a nice breeze and it wasn't overly loud.
(4)Tracy K.
I've eaten here twice - once was for breakfast and had the crawfish étouffée omelet and the grits which was incredibly good, and once I had a simple cheeseburger but it had this amazing pesto mayo and the bay potatoes were heavenly. All that being said about the food, the service is really the best thing about Buttercup - sunny smiles all around!
(4)Dave E.
Clean. Sunny. Friendly. Delicious. Family-run. Full of locals. (And cheap.)
(5)Perry B.
I enjoyed the crawfish étouffée omelet ... Interesting combination .... The portions are large and the service was quick, friendly and efficient .... Great place to eat breakfast in Bay St Louis....
(5)Issac M.
Good clean, simple breakfast. Portion sizes could be bigger. Yes that guy Scooter is the poster boy of southern hospitality.

Had a nice lunch at the Butter Cup. We had a half pound burger with pepper jack cheese and the chicken salad sandwich. Both were delicious. The burger and bun were both tasty and well prepared. The chicken salad was not that unusual but did have its own unique taste. The potatoes were a nice change to the normal sides and they seem to take pride in these tasty little wedges. I had originally ordered the Hawaiian Burger but they were unfortunately out of pineapple. They were very apologetic and I was not disappointed with my large Angus beef burger as a second choice. This is a small restaurant in the old town area of Bay St. Louis. This area is a must visit while in Bay St. Louis.

We stopped in this weekend for a light lunch and it was just perfect. I had the chicken salad on croissant - delicious - and he had the roast beef and cheddar sandwich - also good. Definitely get their "bay potatoes" as your side. Great service and great location.
(4)Erin B.
I don't crave anything from this place but I do always leave satisfied. All egg dishes are always perfectly cooked. Their grits are the best restaurant prepared plain grits I've ever had. The cinnamon rolls smell and look devine! Every time we go someone in our group gets one and raves about it. I'm not a fan of their potato side. Coffee is good and strong!
(4)Kory R.
We ordered sandwiches and a burger. Service was good, potato salad excellent, and the rest of the food was just okay. Cute atmosphere!
(3)Josh R.
Great food. My girlfriend loved the crawfish omelet! Cheerful décor as well, kind of a living room set up.

The Buttercup is a small place that's big on flavor. On my visit, I had the Yellowfin Tuna with Honey Mustard Aioli on a Honey Wheat Bun with a side of Bay Potatoes (red potatoes sautéed and tossed with olive oil and rosemary). In a word, it was fabulous. The service was top notch. My waiter was professional, attentive and friendly. He offered suggestions on customers' favorites and his own. The food came out quickly and the beautiful presentation was a sure sign of attention to detail. The price was very fair as well. Would I go back? Definitely. In fact, I plan to go back before I leave on Friday. If you visit Bay St. Louis, don't miss this place.
(5)Angie T.
Ok. I FREAKING love The Buttercup Cafe. Love. Went for brunch and just fell in love with the bright yellow exterior. Inside it was even more cheerful and sun filled. The coffee was good and strong and the Eggs Bay St. Louis was the best version of eggs Benedict I've ever had and I've hand many an eggs Benedict. Could it be because they make their own bread? Possibly. Maybe it was because the hollandaise sauce was perfectly tangy and the ham and eggs were cooked just right. I can't wait to return for lunch. If I can pull myself away from the brunch menu. :) If you haven't tried this place you're really missing out!
(5)Mark W.
Very friendly and best food I have had all week. Come here for breakfast or lunch. Open till 2:00 and open until 4 on weekends.
(5)Gerald H.
What a great place to enjoy breakfast while in Bay St Louis. It's a short walk from the Marina and beach. Situated in a house with a porch it brings a comfortable dining experience with great southern hospitality. The dishes are basic but well prepared. Definitely a neighborhood gem! Get the buttercup omelette!
(5)Adam G.
I had a very tasty tuna melt. She had a reuben and was much less impressed. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's a short walk from the delightful beach. If you're driving through it's a great stop with food here plus a stroll along the sand.
(4)Tanya D.
We stopped in here on a road trip after reading other yelp reviews. Cute spot, seemed popular, lunch came out fast. The tuna melt was crazy delicious - I don't know what they did to make it taste so good, I thought all tuna sandwiches were pretty much equal, but theirs was awesome. I had an iced tea and asked if I could get a plastic cup to take the little bit I had left to go with me when we were done, and the lady just got me a whole new full iced tea to go, which was super nice of her. I'd definitely recommend this place!
(4)Peter J.
My dining experience is limited to breakfast here but it's never let me down. Price, taste and service do not take a backseat here so check it out.
(4)Tammy L.
This is a cute little restaurant with a very friendly staff! I had the eggs Bay St Louis and it was really good! The chef made a new batch of hollandaise sauce because they had been slow before we came and she didn't want me to have the sauce that had been sitting around. They also have homemade cookies which are delicious, in particular the oatmeal raisin.
(5)Christopher S.
This is a good, local spot with breakfast and lunch menus. I had breakfast, and it was good. The eggs were fresh, good bacon, and fresh fruit. They also had a variety of omelettes, sandwiches, and everything was fresh and made to order. The portions were good sized, and the service was fun and friendly. You can sit inside or outside, they have a nice patio with some sun shades for the summer...you can watch the time (or town) go by. This is a local spot, with good food and friendly service, in a charming town on the bay.
(4)Michael C.
Arrived shortly before closing on a holiday weekend. Service was friendly and fast despite the time. After cleaning up around us, they invited to stay and linger at the outside tables as long as we put the umbrella down when we left. An amazing gesture that will definitley get me to come back.
(4)Ray B.
Traveling through the area and thought I'd try this place as there are lots of good reviews. I can't comment on the food as I couldn't get a seat as the place was full of old folks just gathered for their morning social. The owner wasn't overly helpful in providing a wait time.
(1)Annette W.
Excellent independent place near buccaneer state park. Toast was awesome. I enjoyed the crawfish omelette with new potatoes
(5)Chel S.
LOVE this adorable restaurant right in the heart of Bay St. Louis! The food is delicious! Great breakfast choices and delicious coffee. Bright and cheery indoor seating and great outdoor seating for people watching! This place couldn't be cuter!!!
(5)Rebecca L.
This place is hit or miss. It's small and quaint. Friendly staff/owners. Just a handful of tables inside and some outside. Fair warning if you eat inside, the acoustics are horrendous and it's very loud. Like i said friendly staff but mediocre service. We've been here 4 times total. 2 good visits, 1 okay visit, and 1 "don't know if i will be back" visit. My recommendation is the Eggs Bay St Louis. But it's 50/50 if they will poach the egg correctly or not. The grits are bland. Fruit is always fresh. Family consensus is we don't care for the potatoes. I don't know how to explain it other than they are seasoned but not seasoned. Maybe a wrong combination of seasonings or something. I don't know what kind of bacon they use, but i don't recommend it. It even leaves a horrible aftertaste in your mouth . Cinnamon rolls are HUGE and tasty. The baked goods always have an appetizing appeal to it. We will give it a tiebreaker shot another time.
(3)Melissa M.
This is a place that knows all about family, and they treat you like you're a part of theirs. The food is very good and reasonably priced. The owners are there working right along side the servers. We couldn't have gotten better service! The decor is a bit eclectic but it's bright and fun. And they have homemade pastry and cookies. I love this place!!
(5)Jeremy B.
I had a nice breakfast on the front porch of The Buttercup this morning. I ordered the Southwest Burger cooked medium-rare and it was perfect. It took 30 minutes to get my food because the kitchen was busy but the service was excellent. The servers made should my coffee cup never was empty. I highly recommend eating here when you are in Bay Saint Louis!
(4)Allan B.
I went here with my fiancé on a Monday for lunch. It's a really cute place with a really relaxed feel. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich, she had the black bean burger. The chicken sandwich was good, but the black bean burger was pretty plain. We both had the potato salad, which was mayo-based and EXCELLENT. Sodas come by the can. Would try again.
(3)Michelle M.
Cute little diner in the middle of what seemed to be a neighborhood. The coffee was great (Community Coffee from Louisiana), alone the Meat Scramble was worth the 45 minute drive from Biloxi, and the Crawfish Étouffée omelette was to die for. This is a Great find to satisfy any foodie.
(5)Monica L.
The Buttercup is a bit off the beaten path of Hwy. 90 or I-10, but it's worth the diversion. There are only seven tables inside so consider yourself lucky when you find a seat. It's light, bright and pretty inside -- I imagine it's nice to sit outside on a pleasant day. We were lured by the all-day breakfast (and the huge parking lot which accommodated our camper). The Hubby ordered a standard sausage-and-eggs breakfast; the eggs were prepared perfectly, I swear the red potatoes were hand-cut this morning and the wheat toast was thick and grainy. My quiche was good (especially if like spinach), and the blueberry muffin was moist and full of juicy blueberries. They even had hot tea -- green! Service was friendly and accurate. By the way, the menu had lots of lunch options, too. The bathroom even had fresh-cut flowers.

We came out to Bay St Louis from NoLa to visit friends. Stayed @ Hollywood casino but couldn't handle it for breakfast so Yelped & found this little gem. Good omelets hot fresh coffee & very good toast. Down home breakfast for sure. Lunch looked good but we were in a breakfast frame of mind. Chatty waitress & southern charm. It worked for us!
(4)Andrea P.
Food lacking in flavor. I had the crawfish omelette the dish was a cheese omelette with some bland sauce. DON'T EAT HERE. Service cordial.
(1)Melissa C.
OMG, what can I say about this place? AMAZING. Everything is so delicious. I get the roast beef and CHEDDAR with the bay potatoes. The Italian dressing is amazing. Everything is just so good!
(5)Desiree B.
Never a disappointing experience. Everything this awesome...homemade breads, breakfast, burgers. It's all so yummy!
(5)Katherine J.
Food is ok...nothing amazing or out of the ordinary for breakfast food. Place is usually packed and staff is slow and forgetful. We've stopped coming here since every time the service just gets worse. We actually had an older gentleman that worked there get a little rude to us one day! You can make better breakfast at home.
(2)Eileen H.
A favorite place of ours in Bay St. Louis. A sweet spot for breakfast. With charm...heart...and soul...say hey to Tabitha when y'all visit. She'll "turn your frown upside down" (I borrowed that from someone very special to her). And...when you leave...she will make sure you "have a Blessed day"
(5)Jesse W.
Poor service, long wait time, wrong food delivered, overpriced small portions.. No apologies just dirty looks when food was sent back. Overall terribly managed place. Don't bother
(1)Darren D.
First time visitor, but it won't be my last. Great place to have breakfast out front under the umbrellas (was a particularly nice day). The wait staff and owner were very attentive and cordial. Our order was delivered VERY quickly and the food was delicious. Pricing was more than fair for the quality and quantity of food received. Will be back next time I visit Bay St. Louis.
(4)Karla M.
We loved this place! Charming atmosphere and the food tasted excellent. I had the chocolate chip pancakes and my husband had the Betty's Special. The service was quick and super friendly!
(5)John B.
Showed up just before noon on Sunday and the place was full. We wandered inside and a busy person behind the counter took the time to greet us and let us know that a couple of tables were just about to open up. We were about to grab the first table that opened up (inside) when I noticed an outdoor table opening up. So we sat outside. Food and service were terrific. Good selection of breakfast and lunch items. Our party of 3 can vouch for the spinach scramble, the tuna on a bed of greens, the bay potatos, and the veggie panini. Great way to start a Sunday!
(5)Patrick C.
Love it! Sit outside and enjoy the weather. Breakfast and Lunch both excellent. I haven't had anything here I didn't want to eat again. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is excellent.

The "Buttercup" is the absolute best omelette in 100 miles. Spinach scramble takes number two. The owner and staff are super friendly. Get off the freeway and eat here! Check out the town too. I reside permanently in San Francisco where unbeatable breakfast joints are a dime a dozen. But the people and the food at the Buttercup make me want to stay in BSL longer. Reasonable prices, low key atmosphere, neat down-town indoor or outdoor seating with a view of historic downtown.
(5)Daniel P.
A cool family-run restaurant that does a mighty good breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. I particularly liked the crawfish etouffee omelet which they served last week, but it was on special and so lamentably I have been unable to get seconds. Service is both attentive and friendly, and it seems that the restaurant staff are on a first-name basis with most of the patrons.
(4)Laura F.
I usually go here for breakfast whenever I'm in town. The service is friendly and on point. The menu isn't really unique, but the food is good. I've never been disappointed (I usually get an omelet, by the way). I love hometown restaurants and this one is clean, in a great location and withing walking distance to the cute downtown area full of antique and gift shops.
(4)Shannon M.
Excellent service, dining in or outdoors, doting waitstaff - they know the names of locals. They deliver on food, service, and certainly on southern charm.
(5)Wes K.
Nice clean place in the older part of BSL. I had a reuben with cole slaw and pickles with a glass of sweet tea- hit the spot. The reuben was good, had all the right components. The service was really good, was greeted by a younger gentlemen that sat us, took drink order and tidy'd up the place, then waitress came. Pretty simple place, I'll be back to try something else.
(4)Brad B.
The Butter Cup café is a very charming and delicious breakfast, brunch, and/or lunch restaurant. Dining is great inside the restored cottage on historic Second St. Breakfast in my opinion is the best but they do serve up some huge flame broiled burgers and unique Paninis for lunch. Definitely worth your time.
